Huawei-SAIC's Shangjie Files Fourth Model: 5,139 mm Z9 Electric SUV
SAIC filed the Shangjie Z9, a 5,139 mm electric SUV and Huawei-backed brand's fourth model, in MIIT batch 412. CATL supplies cells; capacity and range remain undisclosed.
Scope of change
- Shangjie Z9 filed in MIIT batch 412 on Friday; launches typically follow within a few months
- Z9 measures 5,139 mm long with a 3,086 mm wheelbase; 455 kW combined output on the dual-motor variant
- CATL (SZSE: 300750) supplies ternary lithium-ion cells; battery capacity and range were not disclosed
- The Z9 is Shangjie's fourth model, after the H5 (159,800 yuan) and the Z7/Z7T launched in April
- Filing images show roof-mounted LiDAR, suggesting Huawei's advanced driver-assistance system

A 5,139 mm battery electric SUV has entered China's regulatory pipeline. SAIC Motor (SSE: 600104) filed the Shangjie Z9 in the 412th batch of vehicle disclosures published Friday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The filing is a step, not a launch. In China, vehicles must clear MIIT filing before sale, and such filings typically precede a market launch by a few months. SAIC submitted two versions: a single-motor variant and a dual-motor variant.
What do the filings specify?
The numbers are concrete.
- Length: 5,139 mm; width: 2,005 mm; height: 1,776 mm
- Wheelbase: 3,086 mm
- Seating: 5-seat standard; 6-seat available only on the dual-motor version
- Single motor: rear-mounted, 280 kW (375 hp), 200 km/h top speed, 2,595 kg curb weight
- Dual motor: adds a 175 kW front unit for 455 kW combined, 210 km/h top speed, 2,715–2,794 kg curb weight
For scale, the Shangjie Z7 sedan launched in April measures 5,036 mm long on a 3,000 mm wheelbase. The Z9 is the bigger vehicle in every dimension that matters to buyers in this segment.
Both variants use ternary lithium-ion batteries with cells from CATL (SZSE: 300750). The filings did not disclose battery capacity or driving range. Those figures typically surface in subsequent regulatory disclosures, so any range claims circulating now deserve skepticism.
Where does the Z9 sit in the lineup?
The Z9 will be Shangjie's fourth model and its first large battery electric SUV. Shangjie is the fifth brand under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance), built jointly with SAIC.
The brand's track record is short but fast:
- H5 SUV: on sale since September 2025, starting at 159,800 yuan
- Z7 coupe and Z7T shooting brake: launched April, from 219,800 yuan ($32,700) and 229,800 yuan respectively, aimed at Xiaomi's (HKEX: 1810) SU7
- Updated H5: launched June at the same 159,800 yuan entry price, adding Huawei's Qiankun ADS 4.1 driver-assistance system
Filing images show the Z9 with roof-mounted LiDAR, a closed-off front fascia and a full-width taillight. That hardware points to Huawei's advanced driver-assistance system. It suggests, but does not confirm, the feature set — MIIT images do not constitute a specification sheet.
What is not in the filing?
No price. No battery capacity. No range. No launch date beyond the customary few-month window. No sales targets.
What the filing does establish is intent: SAIC and Huawei want a fourth model on the market quickly, and they have sized it against the large-SUV segment where the H5's 159,800 yuan entry point sits well below. The Z9 will almost certainly price above both the H5 and the Z7. Where exactly is unknown.
The supplier claim here is thin but verifiable. CATL cells in a ternary chemistry are standard for this class, and the dual-motor's 455 kW output puts the Z9 in performance territory occupied by rivals from Li Auto and Aito. Whether Shangjie can convert filings into volume is a separate question — the brand has been on sale for under a year at the time of the H5's September 2025 debut, and no cumulative delivery figures appear in the filing.
($1 = 6.7220 yuan)
What to watch next
Watch for the MIIT follow-up disclosure carrying battery capacity and range figures. Watch for a launch event with pricing, likely within months given the filing cadence. And watch whether Shangjie confirms the Qiankun ADS system by name — the LiDAR is on the roof, but the software claim remains unverified until the OEM says so.
